Sawasdee is a warm and welcoming family-owned restaurant that has been serving authentic and delicious Thai cuisine in San Antonio since 2005. It prides itself on using fresh ingredients personally selected by the chef and preparing all the dishes and sauces in-house.
After quite an exhausting day of screams and thrills at Six Flags Fiesta, we drove straight to Sawasdee as we were pretty famished and were this close to eating each other alive (or maybe that was just me). We were welcomed and shown to our table by the polite staff and were instructed to scan the QR code to access the web-based menu, with which we struggled due to the poor reception (typical T-Mobile). Aside from that one little hiccup (which wasn’t even their fault in the first place, anyway), we were all ready to order and to stuff ourselves silly!

I began the meal with the Chicken Satay ($8) as the starter, with one order coming with four skewers and an assortment of vegetables (which made for a little snack and really helped with the wait for my next order as these skewers were finished within seconds) that were attractively presented. The skewers were delicious, especially with the coconut milk dressing (which I haven’t seen in any other restaurant before) and the peanut sauce, which brought a delightful sweet and savory taste that paired amazingly well with the tender grilled chicken.

For my choice of beverage, I opted for the classic, the Thai Iced Tea ($3.50), which was cold, refreshing (it’s that word again!), and had a balanced sweetness to it that was just right (unfortunately, I find most Thai Iced Teas a tad too sweet for my liking), and it also certainly helped with the awful Texas heat that we all know and despise (San Antonio, in particular, gets horridly humid at times).

The Pad Thai with Chicken ($14), which was promptly served after the iced tea, was the main dish for the evening, and the simple, sweet, and savory taste was dangerously addictive. On top of that, I had requested mine to be a little spicier, so the Thai red chilies gave a little heat, making the dish just perfect.
I was considering getting dessert, but we were all tired to the point where even breathing seemed like a chore, so yet again, I had to leave without getting something sweet. But hey, at least that makes another reason, besides the great food and friendly staff, to come to Sawasdee again, so all’s good in the end!
Quick note: Make sure you try their Laos-style Papaya Salad! We had some to-go (I forgot to take pictures, however), and they were absolutely divine!
