Hyatt Regency Mainz

The Hyatt Regency Mainz, located right by the beautiful Rhine river, offers both comfort and convenience and is close to several of the city’s landmarks and points of interest.

There’s nothing better than getting a good deal! Since my mom works for Hyatt, I got to make use of the Friends & Family discount code to get my friend and me a room at the Hyatt Regency Mainz, located in the delightful city of, well, Mainz, for our little weekend trip (weekend roundup coming 2033!). We booked the 2-Twin Bed Room and were very much looking forward to checking it out!

Getting There:

The Hyatt Regency Mainz is very accessible regarding transportation options, as public transportation such as the DB train stations (The Mainz Römisches Theater and the Mainz Hauptbahnhof stations to be exact, and that’s also how we arrived at Mainz), as well as bus stops and tram stations, are within walking distance. With Mainz being a major city, taxis are abundant. One can also use the FREE NOW app to get a ride (ridesharing apps aren’t as frequently used here in Germany as in the U.S., and operations in only a select few cities might be to blame).

Arrival & Checking In:

Thankfully, the front desk was not hard to miss, and we had a swift check-in after being greeted by the staff. We also had to fill out a quick form asking for our names, residential addresses, and phone numbers (you fill this form out in any hotel in Germany, as far as I am aware), and once we were done, we were provided RFID key cards for the room and the elevator (something I always forget at first and then panic over), and then made our way to the fourth floor where our 2-Twin Bed Room awaited us.

The 2-Twin Bed Room:

The Bedroom:

The bedroom was simple, nothing too out of the ordinary, from the decor to how the room was set up. The simplicity of the layout and arrangements immediately brought a sense of comfort and relaxation as I stepped into the room, which was much needed after a long train ride and walking to the hotel with my unnecessarily huge luggage, which had way too much stuff for a single night’s stay.

There was a decent-sized closet by the door which had more than enough space for a nights stay, but we just had left our clothes and belongings on the floor like the uncivilized barbarians that we were. There was a sofa by the window to lounge in and soak up the lovely views of the shopping center nearby, and next to it was a desk and chair setup for the busy bees. A TV was also setup in our room, but we didn’t use it.

A pretty varied selection of snacks and beverages were offered in the minibar and the drawer, but aside from the bottled waters that were next to our beds, everything else had to be paid for, so we just opted to hit up the nearby REWE to grab pretty much the same stuff, but just at a much lower price.

As for the beds, they were clean, and regarding the comfort, they were decent, somewhere in the “okay” range for me personally. That being said, I did doze off minutes after getting in bed, so maybe it deserves more than an “okay” rating (or the copious amount of cheap wine could be to blame).

We did have a little issue throughout the night, however, as the automated room temperature kept randomly changing, making us sweat like a sinner in church in one moment and then having us shiver like we were out at the South Pole the next. My friend apparently could not sleep as well due to this, but somehow I managed to brave through all of it, so it just meant that he should’ve indulged in some more €2 wine to knock himself out like a light.

Unfunny joke aside, we do hope the issue gets resolved the next time we stay at the hotel again!

The Bathroom:

Spacious and gorgeous, the bathroom certainly was the highlight of our room! The bathtub was very roomy, and so was the shower. I also liked the water pressure from the shower heads (most hotels I’ve stayed in Germany had comparatively weaker water pressure, so it was very nice).

The downsides, however, were that the water in the sink filled up quickly and took a while to empty, and the tubes containing the body wash and shampoo were close to empty when we arrived. But that’s just a minor inconvenience (not even an inconvenience to be honest) that could easily be fixed by calling the front desk.

Amenities:

According to the website, the Hyatt Regency Mainz offers various amenities for guests to enjoy, such as a fitness center, a pool, a spa, and many more, all of which we did not make use of at all because we had a short stay and our objective for the trip was to look around the nearby museums and landmarks (which was sort of a fail…).

Final Thoughts:

Aside from a few minor nitpicks here and there, we had a pretty enjoyable stay at the Hyatt Regency Mainz and definitely see ourselves spending the night here again! I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone, especially those who wish to explore the lovely Mainz due to the easily accessible transportation options and proximity to some of the city’s best offerings regarding culture and shopping.

[By using the Friends & Family Discount offered by Hyatt, our total came to €113.75]

Let me know if you went to the Hyatt Regency in Mainz and had a great time like we did!
