Korea House Restaurant

With delicious Korean fare, excellent service, and a relaxed atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re in your own house (heh), it certainly makes sense why Korea House Restaurant has a large following and why you should visit!

My friend and I love food, but we love Korean food especially even more (sort of an Animal Farm-esque situation, I guess), so when planning our trip to Düsseldorf, we knew we had to go to one! We decided to eat at Korea House Restaurant mainly because it was close to the Düsseldorf HBF, so we were not really expecting much, but boy were we surprised!

First, as always, let’s start with the decor (I received my Master’s in Interior Design from LLAMASODA University in case you didn’t know). The restaurant has a very Korean feel, which makes sense considering that it serves Korean food (what a discovery!). The decor does not really stand apart from other Korean restaurants that I have been to, but what stood out to me was the dining area, which had a cozy and communal vibe that made me feel right at home and gave me that feeling of joy when together with a huge group of friends and family.

An assortment of side dishes

As with any Korean restaurant, Korea House serves a variety of side dishes, and while the intent is to provide different textures and flavors to provide a contrast as one eats their main dish, we gobbled all of them up like appetizers and by the time our main dishes of choice arrived, the plates were practically empty.

All of the side dishes were pretty good, but my favorites were the beansprouts and the savory-sweet potatoes that were to die for!

Gimbap (€8.50)

The Gimbap (€8.50) was brought to our table right after the side dishes were served, and I loved the slight chewiness of the savory meat and the seaweed wrap and how the slight sourness of the pickle (radish, I assume) tied all the individual flavors of the ingredients together. Most Gimbaps I have tried in other restaurants often rely on the accompanying sauce to give flavor, but Korea House’s Gimbap rolls are one of the few that can stand on their own even without it!

For the drinks, I went for the Cold Corn Tea (€4) and the Korean Pear Juice (€3) as I was thirsty and knew that my gluttonous self would need a lot of fluids to wash the food down. The Cold Corn Tea was refreshing (yup) and delicious and was very reminiscent of barley tea (known as “mugicha” in Japan and bori-cha in Korea) but a little sweeter, whereas the Korean Pear Juice, although coming in a can, was very (when I mean very, I mean very very) fresh and crisp, and the pear puree really made me feel like I was having a bite of the actual fruit instead.

Kim Sam Bok (€17.90)

The Kim Sam Bok (€17.90) came in afterward with such an enticing aroma that it left me salivating like a Saint Bernard and making my stomach growl like one, too, as if I hadn’t eaten anything before at all. It was the first time I had ever had the dish, and I fell in love as soon as I took a bite! I liked how the spiciness lingered on my tongue after each bite, and the slight char on the tofu and the pork on the bottom had gotten from the sizzling hot plate.

The Kim Sam Bok is certainly one of the best dishes to represent Korean cuisine because it has the signature harmony of spicy, sweet, and savory flavors, the kimchi, and the grilled meat that showcases the excellence of Korean barbeque. I highly urge everyone to try it!

Dolsot Bibimbap (€13.50)

My friend went for the Dolsot Bibimbap (€13.50), a simple and filling (not for us, though) dish that arrived alongside the Kim Sam Bok. We mixed all the toppings with the rice and added the delightful accompanying sauce that brought a savory and spicy flavor to the Bibimbap. It was very delicious, and I know for sure that had I lived around here, I would be ordering the Bibimbap every single day for lunch and get even poorer than I already am!

With delicious food, excellent service, and, again, the delicious food, Korea House Restaurant is a fantastic restaurant to dine at (or order from, as they do deliveries and pick-up as well) if you’re looking for good, authentic Korean fare! We certainly will come back here again to try more of their grilled items next time, as well as have another order of the Kim Sam Bok!

You better try the Kim Sam Bok and share your thoughts!
