Peking am Dom Chinese Restaurant, Köln (Cologne), Germany (December 9th 2022)

For a quick meal after a (very) long train ride, me and my friend headed to Peking am Dom which was pretty close to the train station (we also went there because fans of kpop group Blackpink were waiting outside the hotel next door and we wanted to get a view above the crowd!), and I had ordered one of my favorite Chinese dishes, the fiery Mapo Dofu. The dish was excellent, and with the soft tofu which soaked in the flavors of the spicy gravy which had a generous amount of the delightfully mouth-numbing Sichuan peppercorns. I will for sure not only come here again for the Mapo Dofu, but also to have a full meal someday (and hopefully publish the review on time…)!

Note: As you all are aware, even to this day (June 14th 2024) my chronic procrastination still persists unfortunately…

Heimisch Kaffee & Regionales, Köln (Cologne), Germany (December 14th 2022)

With an hour or so to spare before my train ride back home, I decided to relax a bit at Heimisch Café and have a (for my standards) light breakfast. I had the Cinnamon Roll with Apple (probably not the exact name for the pastry), which was deliciously sweet, and the classic combination of cinnamon and apples was amazing as always! I then had a lovely glass of their Pumpkin Milk, which had a foamy, creamy top and their homemade pumpkin spice that gave a subtle warmth and sweetness, while also devouring the simple yet savory Egg-Bacon Roasted Sandwich.

If I had more time to spare I definitely would’ve tried a few more items but I guess there is always next time!

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, Addison, TX, U.S. (December 15th 2022)

Winter has brought in the cold, the frost, and most importantly, new limited-time flavors to try out at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams! On my visit I had tried the Mexican Hot Chocolate and the Eggnog flavors, with the former having a lovely harmony between the chocolate and the spices, bringing in both sweetness and a surprising spicy kick, while the latter had the taste of whiskey at the forefront and the spices bringing a gentle warmth which made for a pretty deep flavor. I’d definitely recommend trying these flavors, but if it doesn’t seem to your tastes, no worries, they got more special flavors coming up!

(P.S. The staff at the Addison store were super friendly, super informative, and super splendid (heh))

Highlight Bubble Tea, Mainz, Germany (February 18th 2023)

For a quick boba run during our trip to the lovely Mainz, my friend and I headed to highlight bubble tea and being the pretty prince(ss) that I am, I went for the Princess Rose with fruit jelly, which had a very milky, sweet, and floral taste to it which was pretty interesting! It’s definitely a beverage made for a princess!

Lille Hus Altstadt Mainz, Mainz, Germany (February 28th 2023)

Craving some pancakes, me and my friend went to Lille Hus, and I had ordered myself the delightful Pancakes with Mascarpone and Berry Compote, which had a lovely tang-o of the tang-y blueberry compote and the creamy mascarpone. I also had the Fresh Mint Tea with Ginger, which was perfect for the cold weather, and the Cinnamon Bun with Blueberries and Vanilla Sauce which had an interesting chewy, dough-like texture, and the warm cinnamon certainly worked well with the subtle vanilla sauce and the blueberries. So all in all, we definitely had a sweet start to our day!

Hà Nôi Pho, Mainz, Germany (March 18th 2023)

I had ordered the Pho Ga, which had a subtle yet flavorful clear broth and was divinely savory. The tender chicken, the crunchiness of the beansprouts, and the warmth of the ginger also added more loveliness to the dish. If you’re in Mainz and crave some good pho, Hà Nôi Pho is the place to be!

So Bo Ro Korean Bakery Café, Düsseldorf, Germany (April 3rd 2023)

With such tempting treats on display, there was absolutely no way we would stick to just one! We had the Soboro filled with lovely cream, the Matcha Scone, which we obviously had to pair with the Matcha Latte, and then the divinely delicious Strawberry Cream Cake, which was just so fluffy and light! I can say with confidence that So Bo Ro is definitely one of the many great places around Little Tokyo to have a nice little (or in our case, not so little) tea break!

1ODER8, Düsseldorf, Germany (April 3rd 2023)

Izakayas are a rarity outside their country of origin, Japan, and it’s always a pleasure to go check one out! I liked the cool, relaxed vibe of 1oder8, and despite being there briefly, we certainly had a great time.

I had the Kiwi Sour while my friend got the Lemon Sour (which I had a little sip of and it was as bitter as my personality), and I liked how the freshness and sour-sweet taste of the kiwi balanced the bitterness of the vodka in the Kiwi Sour. On top of that, the bite-sized kiwi pieces were a delight to nibble on as well!

It’s very much a shame that we were too full to try any of the snacks and more of their drink offerings, but we’re definitely coming back someday with an eager and empty stomach and liver!

Sphere Bay Manga Café, Düsseldorf, Germany (April 5th 2023)

Located in the happening Little Tokyo, Sphere Bay wholeheartedly welcomes enthusiasts of anime and manga culture and also (and most especially) those who go crazy over boba! I got myself the milky and caramel-esque Leopard Milk Tea which was quite a delight, and on top of that, the tapioca pearls in the drink were pretty big and chewy, just the way I like it! I’ll definitely come here again next time when I visit Little Tokyo!

Bánh mì Sài Gòn – Vietnamesisches Baguette, Berlin, Germany (July 21st 2023)

Looking for a nice quick snack before heading out for a fun-filled evening with friends in the massive city of Berlin, we headed to Bánh mì Sài Gòn and got ourselves a Bánh mì (I got the one with the chicken), and they were really good! You had the crisp and toasted baguette (you know a baguette is good when it leaves crumbs all over and makes the roof of your mouth bleed a little), the fresh vegetables, and the salty and savory chicken which all came together for a simple yet pretty filling snack!
