Manifesto Market Berlin, Berlin, Germany (July 22nd 2023)

Located in “The Playce”, a pretty fancy mall with an equally fancy name, the Manifesto Market Berlin is a very cool food court (I love how it has a very sociable and relaxing vibe to it!) that offers a great variety of cuisines from around the world. We opted for South Korean, Chinese, and Indian dishes that day, so we ordered a large order of Korean Fried Chicken from Chi Kin, a packed bowl of Hot Pot from Mao Zeit, and two very big orders of Garlic Naan from Moksa.

The Korean Fried Chicken was deliciously crisp and savory, and it was accompanied by a spicy sauce which did go well but I found myself enjoying the chicken just by itself! The Hot Pot was absolutely divine and was actually spicy (a rarity in Germany, unfortunately). I stuffed my bowl with scrumptious goodies like crab meat, lotus root, tofu, and more, and I liked how their individual flavors were enhanced with the spicy broth. As for the Garlic Naan, while I very much enjoyed the abundance of glistening and glorious butter all over the bread, I found that the garlic taste wasn’t as prominent which was a tad disappointing considering it was a Garlic Naan, you know? That being said, we had a great meal at Manifesto, and if we come back to Berlin in the future, we’ll definitely visit and make sure to spend more time relaxing here!

The Alchemist Berlin, Berlin, Germany (July 22nd 2023)

Looking for some magic to spice up our rather mundane lives, we went to the Alchemist Berlin for some reality-bending concoctions! I had the Pressurized Choc-o-groni, the Edible One, and the Chase the Rainbow drinks (a “little afternoon drink session”, we said), and except for the last drink, each came with their own gimmick. The Pressurized Choc-o-groni had a very bitter and chocolatey taste, and the gimmick for this one was that covering the spout where the gas (science folks help me out with this one) comes out from with your finger would lead to the liquid rising from the vial and coming out from another spout… I think I explained rather poorly, so please take a look at the video below:

The Pressurized Choc-o-groni… In action!

The Edible One had a pretty interesting drink served in an edible cookie cup, and I say interesting because I would describe the drink as sour, yoghurt-y, and citrus-y… Even the consistency of the drink was a little more on the thicker side. Lastly, the Chase the Rainbow drink (funnily enough, and definitely a coincidence, there were Pride celebrations going around in the city) did not have any magic to wow us with, but it definitely wowed me with the taste! It was very refreshing, and squeezing in the grapefruit juice brought out an even wonderful flavor that was just perfect for the summer!

With the friendliness of the amazing staff alchemists, and the wondrous magic of the drinks, I definitely see myself coming back to the Alchemist again!

Doughnut Time, Berlin, Germany (July 22nd 2023)

Donut? Doughnut? Tunhguod? Regardless of whatever spelling you prefer (I’m #teamtunhguod personally), we all can agree there’s always time to scarf down a good donut/doughnut!

Doughnut Time offers a daily surprise donut/doughnut, and me being the fearless risk-taker that I am, went for the jump and got the most interesting donut/doughnut that combined coffee and raspberry… And it was actually pretty good! I’m not quite sure if you can specifically request for this fun donut/doughnut at the store, but if you can you have to try it and see for yourself!

Tudo Bubble Tea, Berlin, Germany (July 22nd 2023)

Right outside Doughnut Time was Tudo Bubble Tea, which was absolutely perfect as I definitely needed an equally sweet drink to accompany my sweet doughnut/donut/tunhguod. I got myself the Egg Creme Brulee bubble tea which was very creamy and custard-y, and was a refreshing treat to beat the summer heat!

Corndog Ninjas, Berlin, Germany (July 22nd 2023)

Us being the Korean corn dog fiends that we were, we went on a little taxi ride all the way to the Berlin Ostbahnhof, and walked a “little” more (my friends will definitely say that we have our own definitions on what a “little walk” means) to a food truck park to get ourselves a bite of the deservingly popular Korean snack at Corndog Ninjas.

I got myself the Half & Half corn dog, which meant one half had cheese while the other half had sausage stuffed within, and obviously had the Flamin’ Hot version with the Korean Spicy Sauce for the toppings. It was film-a-TikTok-showing-the-cheese-pull levels of cheesy and it was so good! I would definitely come back to get some more corn dogs in the future with great eagerness if it didn’t take a seven hour ride to get to Berlin…

Burger King, München (Munich), Germany (August 5th 2023)

Not sure if this is a worldwide thing, but I encountered something pretty interesting here in good ol’ Deutschland and had to share: the Bikini Bottom Burger!

The burger features a vegan patty, lettuce, pickles, and then the pineapple sauce, which makes you feel like you’re literally eating a chunk off of Spongebob’s pineapple house under the sea. It is definitely interesting, to say the least, and you should try it once for yourself to see!

(Side note: the burger goes amazingly well with their Fanta Float!)

Augustiner-Keller, München (Munich), Germany (August 7th 2023)

Last week I had the opportunity to dine at the famed Augustiner-Keller, a massive landmark restaurant in Munich that is packed to the brim with customers daily. Being in Munich, I had to try out their regional fare, so I ordered the Münchner Schnitzel, which was a simple and filling pork filet with a crisp layer outside. Squeezing the lemon slice on the schnitzel gave it a lovely fresh taste and also cut down the greasy feel, and the lemon-y flavor was complemented by the savory and somewhat sour potato salad that was served on the side.

I washed down the schnitzel with a sizable glass of Augustiner Weißbier (“White Beer”), which was crisp but also yet very smooth compared to most beers I’ve had thus far.

All in all, it was a great experience as I got to visit a landmark and also fill myself up at the same time, and I shall definitely visit there again whenever I’m in Munich!

Café Al Teatro, München (Munich), Germany (August 8th 2023)

It was time for dessert after a lovely BBQ dinner at Shao Khao Munich (forgive me, I unfortunately was a little too engrossed with the deliciousness of the food and with making conversation with new friends who hailed from parts far away from the land of Deutschland), so we headed to Café Al Teatro for some ice cream to beat the heat. Being the manchild that I am, I ordered the Peppa Pig sundae from the kids menu, which made the server let out a hearty laugh, much to my embarrassment (in their defense, who WOULDN’T?!)! Back to the Peppa Pig, it was a simple and sweet strawberry gelato sundae which had candy, sprinkles, and whipped cream, which meant it was perfect for the likings of a child (and a manchild)!

I got to go through some exposure therapy while also having a sundae that was as great as the Pitchfork-approved singer, so I would definitely say that I had a fun time at Café Al Teatro!

Kaffeebud Ehrenfeld, Köln (Cologne), Germany (September 6th 2023)

My friend and I stopped by Kaffeebud Ehrenfeld for a nice little break, and we shared a slice of their uber-delicious carrot cake, which was delightfully moist and had a lovely slathering of cream that went quite well with the cake!

I’m not sure if they offer their carrot cakes daily, but if you do see it on display when you visit the cafe, you HAVE to try it (as well as the other equally delicious treats while you’re there as well!)!

Nagoya Japanisches Restaurant Sushi Grill, Köln (Cologne), Germany (September 7th 2023)

We had a light sushi dinner at the Nagoya Japanisches (meaning “Japanese”) Restaurant, and I had ordered the Salmon set, which was simple and decent, but something about it left us wanting more however…
That said, the main draw over here is the all-you-can-eat buffet apparently which we couldn’t try when we were there, so if you go there someday let me know about your experience!
