Sogno takes pride in its signature pasta and steak dishes and is undoubtedly one of the best Italian restaurants in Pyeongtaek.
When the neighboring Manse Chinese Restaurant betrayed us by being closed and denying us their massive bowls of Jjajangmyeon (Korean-Chinese Noodles in Black Bean Sauce), Sogno, like a lighthouse in the deep dark, illuminated a path towards it for us and saved our hungry souls…
This is a story of salvation.
And this is the probably most overdramatic introductory paragraph you might’ve ever read for an amateur food review.

The Decor:

Although I unfortunately cannot properly show you the decor of the restaurant, I being the skilled wordsmith that I am, shall describe it to you with my words…
Sogno’s decor and atmosphere gives a quite inviting and cozy vibe that is similar to what you would find in the numerous cafes here in South Korea, but it also has its own unique charm that gives the restaurant a little personality. Come here during the evening when the tables are filled with diners; the chatters and the staff zipping back and forth will make you feel like as if you’re at a family gathering!
Cherry Ade:

I started off the meal with the Cherry Ade (₩5,500), which was irresistibly tart yet sweet, and this lovely taste paired with the bubbly soda indeed made for an amazingly refreshing drink! The only minor gripe that I had was the lack of enough ice to make the drink colder as within the few minutes it arrived to my table it was already a degree or two from being lukewarm.
Anyway, it is certainly one of the best Cherry Ades I’ve had in my 26 years of living — sogno, if you’re reading this, I will promise to buy a whole crate every month if you decide to sell this miracle soda in stores!
Carbonara:

The Carbonara (₩16,00) was my choice of entree for the meal, not only because of my love of the dish but also because it was featured on their menu as a signature item. The Carbonara was served quite generously to the point where two people could share it and still be left with their bellies satisfied. Even a known “big back” like me (how do you do, fellow kids?) was gasping out of breath due to being completely stuffed from the pasta by the end, so you know the portions are enormous!
Portions aside, the Carbonara also delivered in the taste department! The dish was quite rich and creamy, and the Parmigiano Reggiano brought a lovely mild and nutty flavor. So so good!
WIAG Cabernet Sauvignon 187ml:

It is said the fates of pasta and wine are intertWINEd (badum-tsh), as one can not only enjoy pasta with a lovely glass of wine (or glasses for you alcoholics out there, rest assured, you are seen here at LLAMASODA!), they can also make pasta with wine. So of course I had to get myself a glass of wine to accompany my Carbonara, so I got the WIAG (Wine In A Glass) Cabernet Sauvignon (₩9,000), and this particular wine apparently hailed from the land down under where kangaroos terrorize the streets and gargantuan bugs are aplenty.
I’d loved to say that I enjoyed it but unfortunately it was as bitter as my venomous heart. Thankfully my friend did and they finished it all for me!
Pancetta Pizza:

We also ordered a Pancetta Pizza for the table, which was topped with Sogno’s special sauce, smoked pork belly, red pepper, and a very generous serving of raw sliced onions on top.
The spicy and sweet sauce, the smokiness of the meat, and the distinct spicy and fresh flavors of the vegetables made for an amazing combination! Even one of my friends who isn’t the biggest fan of raw onions liked it, so if you don’t believe me you can believe them!
Passion Fruit Ade:

Frequent readers of the infrequently updated blog that is LLAMASODA know that I am a man of unquenchable thirst, so yes, I ordered yet another beverage, this time the Passion Fruit Ade (₩5,500). Unfortunately, I didn’t really feel any sort of passion towards it as the temperature was very lukewarm and the sweetness was a little too overwhelming for my tastes.
If you HAVE to get yourself a fizzy drink from Sogno, I’d very much suggest the Cherry Ade that I praised to the high heavens previously over the Passion Fruit Ade!
The Staff & Customer Experience:
The staff were friendly and the service was speedy, and they were able to take care of our every request once they got over the initial surprise of having foreign diners (I’m assuming this establishment isn’t much frequented by foreigners as even the other diners looked sort of appalled to see us there). I’d like to thank the staff for trying their best to accommodate us despite the language barrier and still giving us good service!
Final Thoughts & LLAMASODA’S FAV:

My dining experience at Sogno was pretty great, and I would definitely come back here again to try their other signature pasta dishes aside from the delicious Carbonara and also their steak sometime soon while I, of course, chug a glass or two of their Cherry Ade!
