With a relaxing yet intimate vibe, PIETRA serves Italian cuisine and is especially known for its signature Gnocchi and Pizzas. They are also well-deservedly listed in the Blue Ribbon Survey guide, which speaks to the quality of their food and service.
There’s something about Italian food that just hits on a hot summer day, so when I was hungry on a ridiculously hot August afternoon, all I had on my mind was a good serving of pasta. In a street where all you see are stores selling traditional medicine, I didn’t expect to find an Italian restaurant —but boy, was it a great surprise!

The Decor:

The restaurant has all the decor one typically expects from an Italian restaurant: dark wooden furniture, cozy lighting, and a little hint of green from the small plants. The vibe is intimate yet casual and relaxing, making you lose track of time as you enjoy yourself in the welcoming atmosphere!
Lemon & Mint Ade:

I started with a refreshing (it’s that word again!) glass of Lemon & Mint Ade (₩7,000), which was a delightful lemony, fizzy, and cool (both from the ice and the mint) elixir that helped me recover from the brutal Daefrican heat (people call Daegu “Daefrica” because of how hot it is, and I can attest to it!…).
Zuppa Di Funghi:

As much as it may be horribly hot outside, as long as I have a nice cold drink (or two) in hand and am blessed with an air-conditioned room, if there’s soup, I’m getting it! I opted for the Zuppa Di Funghi (₩6,000) (Mushroom Cream Soup), which came in an adorable soup cup (I have a soft spot for them!)! It had a creaminess reminiscent of whipped cream and a subtle mushroom taste that, I noted, took a little while to develop on my tongue.
Personally, I feel like a little dash of salt and pepper would’ve really enhanced the soup (especially the mushroom taste), but even without it, I was still left very pleased because:
- It’s Cream of Mushroom Soup, AKA one of the all-time comfort food greats!
- IT CAME IN A SOUP CUP. A SOUP CUP!!
My soup cup (I’m still so happy thinking about it…) of Zuppa Di Funghi also came with two slices of Ciabatta, which was warm, thick, and had an airy dough (if that makes sense), and most importantly, like with any self-respecting Ciabatta, had a crisp crust which was hard enough to lacerate the roof of your mouth.
Burrata Cheese:

My dear Italians, please do not chop my head off, but until my order of Burrata was served to my table on the 31st of August, 2025, at 2:34PM on the dot, I NEVER KNEW BURRATA WAS CHEESE, NOT BREAD (in my defense, it was on their menu’s bread section…)!
So after staring at the dumpling-like mound of cheese in front of me for an entire minute and then consulting the internet for instructions on how to eat it, I grabbed my fork and knife and then went for it!
It was very reminiscent of fresh cream and cottage cheese (or paneer for my South Asian folk), but with a slightly lighter taste, and I could see why so many salad enthusiasts rave about it! I particularly wasn’t as much of a fan, but then again, I only had it with bread (I ordered extra), so maybe trying it with other foods could change my mind in the future!
White Wine (By the Glass):

I got myself a glass of White Wine (between ₩6,000-9,000) not only because it’s a LLAMASODA mandate to order more than one drink per meal, but also because, good lord, every single day in this blasted world feels like a hurdle…
The White Wine was surprisingly strong (perfect) and smooth, and had every sip begin with a slight fruitiness and end with a slight searing sensation (or maybe it was healing the bruised roof of my mouth?!), making it a great companion with my main dish for the meal, which was the…
Scoglio Pasta:

The Scoglio Pasta (which apparently can be translated to “Pasta on the Rocks”, and in my opinion, the name rocks!) not only had a rich, lemony, and buttery sauce, but also had a generous garnish of lemon zest, which made for a, well, zesty and light dish. The noodles were al dente and soaked in the lemony flavors of the zest, but I felt it didn’t quite mesh with the sauce and the seafood, as if I was having two dishes at once. Aside from that, it also got cold really quickly, which was another slight disappointment.
All in all, it was an alright dish; however, I admit I was left wanting a little more.
The Staff & Customer Experience:

As with all the restaurants I’ve been to (which kind of makes me think this section isn’t really needed at times…), the staff were so lovely and helpful. Still, I’d like to highlight their attentiveness and their excellent recommendations, so I’d really like to express my gratitude! Thank you so much, PIETRA staff!

The server also suggested a cup of hot Peppermint Tea to bring my meal to a close, which I greatly appreciated, because the refreshing (someone buy me a thesaurus) peppermint cut down the lingering greasiness of the pasta sauce and had a warm, soothing effect on my belly!
If I could suggest one thing to improve my experience, I would’ve really preferred every table to have some seasonings for the diners to grab because I felt like all the dishes I had could’ve used a little more salt and a little more pepper (which I talked about before). But other than that, everything was stellar!
Final Thoughts & LLAMASODA’S FAV:
PIETRA is a restaurant perfect for an intimate lunch or dinner, and as mentioned previously, the atmosphere and vibe really sucks you in and make you feel relaxed and at ease (having a drink or two helps with that too). I really had a great experience at the restaurant and will definitely come back here if I revisit Daefrica. Next time, I’ll get their signature Gnocchi!
