Eldis Regent Hotel – Hotel Review

carpaltunnel98 Avatar

Eldis Regent Hotel is the ideal hotel for those who prefer a comfortable, convenient stay, with access to anything (I mean ANYTHING) one could possibly need: multiple dining and drink options, a fitness center, a spa and sauna, a convenience store, and even a pharmacy… And the best part of it all is that it all comes at an affordable price!

I am someone destined for a life of luxury and pampering in every waking moment, but I am cursed with pockets as thin as a sheet of paper because I spend my money on useless EXTREMELY NECESSARY things like K-Pop albums and otaku goods, among many other essential items. Fortunately, the God of Travels & Sanctuary that is Agoda (it literally has “GOD” in its name) had an irresistible offer that no sane person could refuse at the Eldis Regent Hotel, so you know I had to spend a night of luxury there!

Getting There:

Eldis Regent is in an excellent location: it’s between the Cheongna Hill (connected to Lines 2 & 3) and the Banwoldang (connected to Lines 1 & 2) subway stations, has nearby bus stops, and, of course, taxis are available to take you there as well. It’s also pretty close to some significant nearby landmarks, such as the Dongsan Cheongna Hill and the Daegu Jaeil Church, and the “Myeongdong of Daegu”, aka Dongseongno Street, is a 10-15 minute walk away.

Arrival & Checking In:

Although I was an hour or two early before my 3PM check-in time, I still proceeded to their reception desk (which is sandwiched between the fancy lobby’s lounge area and the equally fancy Inheritance Lounge) in hopes that they could keep my baggage with them until then, but they were gracious enough to give me the keycard to the room itself, which my poor, aching back and I definitely appreciated.

The staff were also very kind and even suggested places in the city to visit. If you’re reading this, THANK YOU!

The Standard Korean Style Suite:

The Bedroom:

The room was beautiful and spacious, and I loved how it was arranged so the bed and the lounging area felt like separate rooms. The aesthetic traditional minimalism, if that’s even a thing, certainly added to the illusion of space as well.

For the lounging area, there was a decently-sized closet which also housed a mini-fridge, a small TV, and an electric water kettle with a small selection of tea and coffee, along with beautiful traditional Korean-style small tables and drawers.

As this was the Standard Korean Style Suite, it meant that I would be sleeping on a mattress right on top of the hard wooden floor. Being someone who (unfortunately) has become very accustomed to spending nights at jjimjilbangs (Korean bathhouses) after missing the last train or bus, it wasn’t an entirely new experience, so I was quite okay with it and had a decent night’s sleep.

The Bathroom:

One would probably not expect a modern, almost sci-fi-like bathroom with a delightful shade of orange in a traditional-style room (I sure didn’t), and although it sounds like a jarring whiplash of styles, the contrast, to me personally, was actually pleasing!

The toilet had a bidet with all the functions, such as automatic flushing and seat warming, but it didn’t have the bidet (or the Culo-eaner©, as I like to call it) function, and I’m not sure whether it was outright disabled or mine just didn’t happen to work.

The toiletry kit included a shower cap, a toothpaste and toothbrush set, a comb, a bath sponge, a bottle of DAMA Honey & Chamomile body lotion, hair wax, a razor, and a ladies’ set, which I didn’t peek into because my parents raised a fine gentleman!

Regular readers of LLAMASODA know that I am pretty particular about water pressure, and I am pleased to inform you that it was great! As for the products, because it wasn’t hair-wash day, I only used the DAMA Honey & Chamomile Body Wash which felt really nice on my skin!

Facilities:

Eldis Regent offers a wealth of facilities, such as…

  • A pretty garden (with a mini golf course!) [20F of the new building]
  • A 7-Eleven and a pharmacy (?!) [B1F of the main building]
  • A business center with an amusing piece of decoration that says “BLACK MONEY” [1F of the new building]
  • A fitness center [20F of the new building]
  • The Sienna Sauna & Spa [B1F of the main building]
  • A VIP Lounge
  • A conference room [20F of the new building]
  • Three banquet halls, the Grand Ballroom, the Diamond Hall, and the Ruby Hall for weddings and meetings

Aside from the 7-Eleven, for food and drink, they also offer…

  • Breakfast buffet at the Regent Court [2F of the new building]
  • Korean dishes with soft tofu as the highlight at the Delicious Korean Restaurant [B1F of the main building]
  • A variety of drinks (they claim to serve over 10 different kinds of wine alone) and food while enjoying live performances at the Blue Chicago [B1F of the main building]

Despite all these facilities provided by the hotel, I chose to head out and dedicate my time to exploring the city and trying out different restaurants and cafes, although I did get myself a drink and relaxed for a good few minutes at their Inheritance Lounge, for which I had uploaded a Quick Bites post on Instagram. I am a sucker for likes, engagement, and attention, so I will embed the post here as well:

Final Thoughts:

Eldis Regent Hotel is the definition of affordable luxury: you have spacious, beautiful rooms equipped with modern features and a wealth of facilities to both entertain and make your stay more comfortable, all at a price where you don’t need to find the nearest black-market dealer to sell your kidneys to pay for!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, and although I am someone who prefers to spend most of my travels out and about, this time, after learning about everything Eldis Regent offered, I do feel a pang of regret about not making the most of my stay. So next time, when I revisit Daejeon, I’ll have to make sure to book a room here again and try everything!

[Thanks to Agoda, I got a pretty great deal for a one-night stay for $75.55!]

Let me know if you stayed at the Eldis Hotel Regent, and let me hear your thoughts!

P.S. I took multiple (MULTIPLE!) pictures of the hotel exterior but for some reason the files were incompatible with WordPress… But believe me when I say it looks fancy and gorgeous!
