The Farmers Market LA – Food Review

Serving the Angelenos since 1934, the Farmer’s Market (actually, put some respect on their name: they’re the ORIGINAL Farmer’s Market in LA!) is where one can reliably go to find some great restaurants and quirky shops.

3–4 minutes

My sister said she knew a spot, and she really knew a spot indeed! The Farmer’s Market was such a cool place where everyone could come to sit down and unwind, go shop for some interesting trinkets, and most importantly, go eat!

Speaking of “eat,” here’s what I ate at the Farmer’s Market…

The Gumbo Pot:

Jambalaya (Large):

Jambalaya (Large) ($17.75)

That day, for some inexplicable reason, nothing screamed “LUNCH IN LA!!” to me more than the Louisianan Gumbo Pot, a Farmers Market mainstay since 1986! I had their Large Jambalaya ($17.75), which was deliciously saucy and really hit the spot (I’d say it was on par with my good friend Powers’ Jambalaya, which means it was GREAT!)! The seasonings were simple but it lingered after every bite, encouraging you to eat more. It truly was a nice dish!

I opted for their Creole Mustard Potato Salad for my side of choice, and it was a lovely chilled dish where the mustard certainly did its thing by enhancing all the other ingredients and by adding some spiciness that of course is always welcome!

I’d also like to dedicate an entire paragraph to their Cornbread (their website puts the word “killer” before “cornbread” and I wholeheartedly agree!), which had a savory-sweet taste and had a crumbly yet moist texture that the only way I could describe it would be “heavenly…” I support businesses putting in effort on all of their food, be it an entree or a side that’s a free inclusion (well not really free but you know what I mean, right?), and I really appreciate The Gumbo Pot for doing it too!

Beignets:

Beignets ($6.75)

The Beignets ($6.75) were so hot, sweet, and deliciously doughy that I swear I could feel the powdered sugar on top cleanse me of all my sins with every bite! You MUST try their Beignets and that’s an order!

Patsy D’Amore’s Pizzeria

Lasagna:

Lasagna ($17.25)

We also got a plate of Lasagna ($17.25), which happened to be my sister and her girlfriend’s favorite as they said it makes them feel as comforted as getting a nice, warm hug… And I agree!

The dish was a huge stack of that cheesy, tomato-y, and basil-y goodness one can expect with Italian cuisine, presented in layers upon layers. It felt like the lasagna melted in my mouth with every spoonful!

Bennett’s Ice Cream:

Vanilla Drumstick:

Vanilla Drumstick ($8)

I got myself the Vanilla Drumstick ($8) from the storied Bennett’s Ice Cream (they’ve been here since 1963!), that was already premade and sitting in the freezer, which was great as I really wanted something cool and sweet to dig in immediately, but also wasn’t as great because the cone ended up having a slightly soggy texture…

Minor nitpick aside, the Drumstick was HUGE and Bennett’s certainly didn’t skimp out on the chocolatey fudge (that was more dark than milk chocolate which was a pleasant surprise) and the crunchy nuts (heavy on the CRUNCHY) as it took me more than a couple of bites to finally get to the milky sweet vanilla ice cream (you can get a different flavor of ice cream too!)!
